Ruby Costello: Teaching E-portfolio

I chose to become a teacher because I’ve grown up surrounded by the kind of community you only find in Hawaiʻi, where relationships matter, people look out for each other, and learning happens everywhere, not just in a classroom. Teaching feels like a natural extension of that. I love working with students and helping them feel confident, capable, and connected, whether we’re moving, learning something new, or just trying our best that day. Professionally, I’m dependable, organized, and patient, and I really value creating spaces where students feel safe being themselves. I bring a lot of energy and positivity into my teaching, and I care about making learning meaningful, culturally grounded, and inclusive for all students. My long-term goals are to become a PE and Health teacher who helps build a healthy, active school community here on the island, continue growing through new experiences and professional development, and eventually support other educators as a mentor or leader. I want employers to know that I show up fully for my students, that I’m passionate about serving this community, and that I’m committed to growing into the best teacher I can be.
